Obituary of Doris L. Punch

Mrs. Doris L. Punch, of Rochester, formerly of Medina, passed away on July 30, 2016 at The Friendly Home in Rochester.
Mrs. Punch was born in Medina, July 5, 1925, the daughter of the late Jacob and Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Thorne) McPherson. A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1943, and Continental Beauty School, she married Ovid B. “Bud” Punch on May 8, 1948 at St. Mary’s RC Church.
Mrs. Punch worked at Curry’s Toggery Shoppe before beginning her career as a self-employed beautician. She owned and operated her shop, The Glamour Shop, from the mid 1950’s to the mid 1960’s. She was a long time member of Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church.
Mrs. Punch was an avid bowler and a member of a Medina woman’s bowling league from 1951 to 1960. She enjoyed swimming and taught the neighbor kids to swim at the Punch cottage on Lake Ontario. They enjoyed residing at the cottage during the summer months from 1955 to 1970. She spent many happy days fishing with her brother, Carl. Their favorite spot was in The Thousand Islands. She and her husband enjoyed a different kind of fishing in Florida where they would stay a month or longer at a time. They started going down to Florida in 1970, bought a home in 1973 and sold it due to Bud’s health in the mid 1990’s.
Survivors include her daughter, Karen (Thomas) Napoli of Rochester; “adopted” daughter, Ayleen Menegazzo of Guatemala; 2 granddaughters, Lisa (Shawn) Hopkins and Carol (Ted) Schweitzer; 3 great grandchildren, Kevin and David Hopkins and Samantha Schweitzer; her brother, Homer (late Ruth) McPherson and a sister-in-law, Rose McPherson; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband on June 19, 2007; 3 brothers, Gordon, Carl and Donald McPherson.
Friends may call on Sunday, August 7, (1-3) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street, Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 8 at 11AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church and inurnment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery Mausoleum.
