Welfare Burial Benefits
When a family is faced with the financial responsibilities of burying their loved one and they need financial help, the county Department of Social Services (D.S.S.) may be able to help. If a person dies with little or no assets or liquid funds, the next of kin may go to the local county D.S.S. office and apply for "county burial benefits". The amount allowed varies from county to county. This application has to be done in person and can only be applied for after a person has died. The application cannot be done before the person dies. For further information please contact your local D.S.S. office.
