Mary Lou Dellinger, 77, of Medina, passed away peacefully on the morning of Sunday, March 26, 2017 at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Medina on April 25, 1939 to the late Fred and Guelda (Young) Schlegel. A graduate of Medina High School in the class of 1958, Mary Lou was active in band where she served as majorette. As an Air Force wife, she got to travel and lived for a while in Hawaii and Alaska. While in Hawaii she learned to Hula dance and did several performances for area organizations. Mary Lou survived the devastating earthquake of 1964 in Alaska and the Journal Register did a story about her experience. After returning to New York, she sold Tupperware for several years. She enjoyed watching the Buffalo Bills play and was their “#1 fan”. She had a big “Mary Lou loves the Bills” in front of her house. She shined at Christmas time, always going above and beyond with the family dinner and decorations, especially her Christmas tree. She loved Christmas and winter, collecting many things associated with the season. Mary Lou loved watching the birds come to the feeder and always made sure there was something for them. She enjoyed watching westerns and listening to Barbara Mandrell and Johnny Mathis. Mary Lou was a huge dog lover and loved her dogs Winkie and Tiny like her own children.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Bobby (Lois) Dellinger, Fred (Rose) Dellinger and Melissa (Philip) Schening; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister, Dorothy Emanual; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong best friend, Eleanor Davis. She was predeceased by her parents, Fred and Guelda Schlegel, brother, Bill Schlegel, sister, Delores Askew and several nieces and nephews.
