Obituary of Maynard Charles Lewis
~~Mr. Maynard C. Lewis, of Medina, passed away on June 4, 2017 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home.
Mr. Lewis was born in Painted Post, NY, June 11, 1921, a son of the late Charles and Bertha (Nixon) Lewis. A graduate of Hammondsport High School, class of 1940, he married the former Evelyn Little on August 5, 1941. A US Navy veteran, he served from June, 1944 to Nov. 1946. He graduated from basic engineering school in Gulfport, Mississippi and served most of his tour in Hawaii.
Mr. Lewis was a manager at Mercury Aircraft in Hammondsport until 1964. In 1964, he began working at Foster Wheeler in Dansville until his retirement in 1986. He was an active member of the Medina United Methodist Church. Maynard was a seventy one year member of the Free & Accepted Masons, serving two years as Master. He was a member of the Hammondsport, Dansville and Medina Lodges and a representative to the State of Kansas Lodge.
Maynard enjoyed spending time with his family, church family and friends. He coached Little League and enjoyed bowling. He was an avid freecell solitaire player on his computer and challenged himself with sudoku as he loved working with numbers. Mr. and Mrs. Lewis moved to Medina in 2003.
Survivors include his 4 children, Betty Jean (Ron) Thomas, Sharon (Dave) Whiteman, Richard (Cathy) Lewis and Terry (Rene) Lewis; grandsons, John Thomas, Sean Cyganovich, David (Cindy) Cyganovich, James (Natalie) Lewis and Kyle Lewis; granddaughters, Rhonda (Harold) Blew and Stephanie Lewis; great grandchildren, Hailee Bane, Cooper Hardiman, Charlie Lewis, Griffin Lewis, Abrielle Cyganovich; brothers and sisters-in-law, Loren (Joann) Little, Harold Little, Louise Little and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife of 70 years, Evelyn (Little) Lewis; his parents Charles (Bertha) Lewis, sisters and brothers-in-law, Genevieve ( Gene ) McGoff, Beatrice ( Kenneth ) Simpson, and Mildred Lewis. brothers-in-law, Charles Little, Richard Little and Edward Sustakoski; sisters-in-law, Georgia Little, Ruth Little and Norma Sustakoski.
Friends may call on Friday 11AM -12 Noon at the United Methodist Church, 11004 W. Center St. Ext., Medina. Masonic services will be held at 11:45AM under the auspices of Medina Lodge #336, F & AM. The Rev. Anthony Hipes will officiate at his 12 O’Clock funeral service. Military honors will be accorded at the church by members of Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion and Lincoln Post #1483, VFW following the funeral service.
