Obituary of Mariann R. (Davies) Holcomb

Mrs. Mariann R. (Davies) Holcomb, of Medina, passed away unexpectedly on January 17, 2018 at her home.

Mrs. Holcomb was born in Niagara Falls, NY, September 1, 1942, the daughter of the late William John and Agatha Margaret (Brislin) Davies.  A graduate of Madonna High School, class of 1960, she was employed as a secretary by the Niagara Falls Board of Education from 1961-1973.  During that time, she attended Niagara University at night where she graduated with a BS in education.  She was employed by the Medina Central School District, as a business teacher in the Medina High School from 1974-1997.  Mrs. Holcomb taught Keyboarding, Business Communications, Personal Typing, Business Math, Office Practice, Recordkeeping, Introduction to Occupations, Business Law and Business Dynamics. Following retirement, she taught computer courses at Niagara Community College.

Mrs. Holcomb was a member of Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church, New York State Retired Teachers Association, and the Orleans County Chapter, Retired Teachers Association.  She served as the Orleans Chapter secretary and was active with the scholarship fund.  She enjoyed crocheting and reading.

Survivors include 2 brothers, Col. John William Davies, USAF, Ret. of Colorado Springs, CO and James Edward Davies of Altus, OK and 2 nieces, Jennifer and Lucy.  She was predeceased by her husband, Hobert L. Holcomb, Sr. on Feb. 21, 2015.

Friends are invited to attend her graveside committal service on Wednesday at 10AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery.  The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will officiate.
