Obituary of Sheldon John DeHollander

Mr. Sheldon J. DeHollander, of Medina, passed away on February 5, 2018 at the Medina Memorial Hospital.

Mr. DeHollander was born in Spencerport, NY, December 8, 1940, the son of the late John Jacob and Violet Marion (Aiken) DeHollander.  A graduate of Spencerport High School, class of 1958, he married the former Carol A. Pattison on July 16, 1960.  They moved to Albion in 1963 and to Knowlesville in 1973.  They operated the Knowlesville Store, Shelly’s Deli, from 1979-1984.  He was an active life member of the Ridgeway Volunteer Fire Company.

Mr. DeHollander was employed by the Eastman Kodak Company from 1959-1993.  Following retirement, he was employed by the Medina Central School District, as a bus driver, for 24 years.  Active in the community, he will be remembered as one of Santa’s helpers and enjoyed working with the Decorate Medina Committee.  He was a member of the Crusaders Motorcycle Club and was the track announcer for over 30 years.  He worked at Freeman’s Cycle Ranch, played golf and was in the Medina bowling league.

Survivors include his wife, Jacqueline (Myers); 2 children, Dawn Snyder and Kevin (Sue) DeHollander; 6 grandchildren, Shelly Ann (David) Shaefer, Stacey (Khang) Thai, Samantha (Zachary) Zinkievich, Alex Snyder, Katleen DeHollander and Hunter DeHollander; 3 great grandchildren; 2 bonus children, Thomas D. Weichman and Tammy Gill; 4 bonus grandchildren, Thomas and Michael Weichman, Jake and Sarah Tibbs; 3 sisters, Emma Ellen Sue DeHollander, Elsie Shirley Ann Kodweis and Sharon Ann Elizabeth Murray; his 2 beloved dogs, Mollie and Missy; several nieces, nephews and friends.  He was predeceased by his first wife, Carol, on October 22, 2000.

Friends may call on Thursday (4-7) at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina, where his funeral service will be held on Friday at 10AM.  Pastor Kim Smith will officiate and interment will be in Boxwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to either the Knights/Kaderli Memorial Fund or Decorate Medina Committee.
