Obituary of Dorothy Rose Zwiefka

Mrs. Dorothy Rose (Shannon) Zwiefka, 104, passed away on February 25, 2018 at the Phoebe Wyncote Nursing Home in Wyncote, PA.

Mrs. Zwiefka was born in Medina, February 6, 1914, a daughter of the late Leo William and Josephine Anna (Hoffman) Shannon.  She was a  graduate of Medina High School, class of 1932.

Mrs. Zwiefka was employed by St. Mary’s School, as a school teacher for many years and later was a substitute teacher in the Medina Central School District.  She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s RC Church, St. Mary’s Mother’s Club, the Home Bureau Club and the Friday Night Ladies Group at the Apple Grove Inn.  She enjoyed knitting, collecting clowns, playing cards, dancing the polka and eating ice cream!  She was famous for her date cookies.  Mrs. Zwiefka was a resident of Medina for 86 years before she moved to PA to live with her granddaughter and her family until her death.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathleen (late Paul) Rucinski of Jenkintown, PA; grandchildren, Michael (Sunny) Rucinski of Seattle, WA and Sara (Mark) Challingsworth formerly of PA currently of Bad Vilbel, Germany and Molly (David) Gable of San Diego, CA; great grandchildren, Ian Challingsworth, Brittany Challingsworth, Isaac Challingsworth and Daphne Challingsworth; nieces and nephews, Robert (Sharon) Sposito of Lockport, Christ (Mary) Sposito of Newfane, Brenda (Doug) Dunn of Medina, Leo Robert (Roberta) Shannon of Middleport.  She was predeceased by her husband, Francis Victor Zwiefka on October 20, 1980; 2 sisters, Margaret Shannon and Ruth Shannon Sposito; 2 brothers, Leo Robert Shannon and Gordon Shannon; and a niece, Patricia Sposito.

Friends may call on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 (6-8) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.  The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 11AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church.  Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
