Obituary of Elizabeth Monell-Higgins

Please share a memory of Elizabeth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Elizabeth "Liz" Monell-Higgins

Our Lizzie passed away peacefully at Roswell Park Friday afternoon, surrounded by her nurses and sister, after a long, courageous battle.  She was 49.

She is survived by her parents Jack and Sue (Fox) Monell, sister Melissa (David) Cotter, brother John (Alane) Monell, nieces Allyson (Eric Varga) and Amanda, nephews Zach, Adam, and Jakob, and several aunts, uncles, cousins, and many, many dear friends.  She was also nanny to Rudy, her very fluffy nephew.

Liz was an avid fan of the Bills and Sabres.  She could also be seen cheering her nephews on during their high school and college sports careers.  Her love of Broadway made her nieces’ performances in school musicals that much more enjoyable.  Liz was Drum Major of the Mustang Marching Band her senior year and was a featured trumpet soloist.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 4-8pm at Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center Street, Medina.  The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday morning at 11AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church, 211 Eagle Street in Medina.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Liz’s name to the Richard Knights/Sue Kaderli Memorial Fund, Inc, PO Box 684, Medina, NY  14103.  We would like to thank Liz’s many friends who took the time to help Liz through this difficult time.
