Obituary of Arline B. Powley

Arline B. Powley, of Glassboro, NJ, formerly of Barker, NY, entered into rest on October 11, 2019. Born May 6, 1925 in the town of Somerset, she was the eldest daughter of the late Veron and Lucille Bateman.  During World War II, she worked for Harrison Radiator Division of G.M.C. in Lockport.  Mrs. Powley later worked as a teacher and taught in various fields, from adult education to Sunday School. She was known for her red hair, long legs and her love of reading. Mrs. Powley was a former Girl Scout leader and was a seventy year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.

 

She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Van R. Powley on October 28, 2016. 

 

Survivors include her daughters, Mary Ruth Sato and Vanessa L. Powley and their husbands, Mickey Sato and Donald Underwood, respectively; grandchildren, Shane Sato, Natasha Endo and Van Sato; four great-grandchildren, Aya and Koko Sato, Ren and Jene Endo; and her two sisters, Marilyn (Skip) Mitchell and Sandra Hoffman.

 

Her graveside committal service will be held on Saturday, November 2nd at 10 a.m. at the West Ridgeway Cemetery (corner of Ridge Rd./Rt.104 & Marshall Rd., Medina). Rev. Merrill Bender, pastor of the County Line United Methodist Church in Barker will officiate. Her memorial service is being held in Mays Landing, NJ at the Weymouth United Methodist Church on October 26th at 2 p.m.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the County Line United Methodist Church, 1385 County Line Rd., Barker, NY 14012.
