Obituary of Weldon R. Barnum

Weldon R. Barnum, of Medina, entered into rest peacefully at his home with family by his side on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.

A son of the late Vernon and Edith (Brown) Barnum, he was born in Lyndonville on September 8, 1929 and grew up on Angling Road. Mr. Barnum graduated from Lyndonville High School in the class of 1947. After graduation he worked as a meat cutter and then went on to serve his country in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952 achieving the rank of Corporal (E-4). He served in occupied Germany as company clerk. Mr. Barnum married met the love of his life on a blind date in 1953, the former Donna L. (Ashman) Aronica. The couple were married on May 8, 1954 and together raised a family of five children. He worked for Harrison Radiator Division of GMC in Lockport for 30 years as a production foreman and retired in 1986. He was known to be able to fix just about anything, from a curling iron to a car. Mr. Barnum enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills. He was an active member of the Houseman-Tanner Post #1603, American Legion in Lyndonville for 33 years and served as post adjutant. Mr. Barnum also enjoyed volunteering for the Joint Veterans Council driving the Orleans County Veterans Medical Transport van for many years.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife, Donna Barnum; five children, Brad (Ruth) Barnum, Gay Lynn (Ken) Isgrigg, Kirk (Cindy) Barnum, Randy (Clara) Barnum and Andra (Dan) Greenwald; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by two sisters, Esther (Chuck) Hedley and Ruth (Harold) Geiger; and one brother, Vernon (Edna) Barnum, Jr.

There will be no prior visitation. A memorial service with full military honors will be held on Sunday, July 3 at 4:00pm at the East Shelby Community Bible Church, 5278 E. Shelby Rd., Medina. Future interment will be in Bates Road Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina.
