Obituary of Henry Anthony Kozody

Mr. Henry A. Kozody, of Medina, passed away on October 19, 2016 in his home that he built fifty six years ago. Mr. Kozody was born at home in Medina, July 26, 1931, the youngest child of eleven of the late Jozef and Jadwiga “Ida” (Wieczorek) Kozodoj. A graduate of Sacred Heart School, he attended Medina High School. He married the former Irene B. Slusar on September 3, 1955 at Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Kozody was a US Army veteran and served from April 16, 1952 to March 2, 1954 in the 101st Airborne Infantry Division. Henry was a devoted family man and a loving grandfather. He was a union carpenter. He began his career at Frank J. Balcerzak & Son Construction Company and later worked for several Rochester area construction companies. He retired from Local 85 of Rochester in 1993. Henry was the caretaker of West Ridgeway Cemetery for five years and Sacred Heart Cemetery for twenty years. He served on the Town of Ridgeway Zoning Board of Appeals from 1991 to 2010. Henry enjoyed farming, bowling and playing cards. He was a member of the Medina euchre league for many years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Club, and a lifelong member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church and Holy Trinity Parish. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Irene; 5 children, Jeffrey (Mary) Kozody, Jennifer (late E. Randall) Holbrook, David (Kristen) Kozody, Brian (Carrie) Kozody and Paul (Carolyn) Kozody; 5 grandchildren, Olivia, Macrae, Mason, Mallory and Sophie; 3 sisters-in-law, Helen and Frances Kozody and Frances Dexheimer; 2 brothers-in-law, Lawrence and Paul Slusar; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 4 sisters, Julia Budynski, Josephine Wisnock, Bernice Lucas, Sophie Mann and 6 brothers, Andrew, Anthony, Joseph, Walter, Stanley and William Kozody. Friends may call on Monday (4-7) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 W. Center St., Medina. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate his Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday at 11 at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church. Military honors will be accorded at graveside at Sacred Heart Cemetery by members of Lincoln Post #1483 and Butts-Clark Post #204, American Legion. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Orleans County or Holy Trinity Parish.
