Mrs. Rita C. Mazur, of Medina, passed away on December 7, 2016 at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home. Mrs. Mazur was born in Medina, January 23, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Ida (Washak) Wanecski. A graduate of St. Mary’s School and Medina High School, class of 1945, she married Henry G. Mazur on October 11, 1947 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Roman Catholic Church. A lifelong resident of Medina, she was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church. She was employed by the Medina Central School District, as a cafeteria monitor, in the Oak Orchard Elementary School, was a waitress at the Apple Grove Inn and was a Licensed Practical Nurse at the Medina Memorial Hospital for 25 years, 15 years in the Intensive Care Unit. Mrs. Mazur enjoyed travelling with her husband in many of the United States including Hawaii and in Europe. She was an avid reader and enjoyed swimming and crossword puzzles. Survivors include her daughter, Maureen Ritter of Medina; her son, Daniel (Jacalyn) Mazur of Essexville, MI; her daughter-in-law, Diane Mazur of Medina; 7 grandchildren, Maggie (Sean) Borromei, Zachary Mazur, John Henry Mazur, Abby Lyn (Sean) O’Hare, Aaron (Sara) Clute, Ryan Clute and Dane Ritter; 7 great grandchildren; a sister, Helen L. (late Walter) Zelazny of Medina; a brother, Eugene (late Nancy) Wanecski of Medina; several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Henry, on June 14, 1999; her son, Michael J. Mazur on Oct. 5, 2011; 2 brothers, Stanley and Walter J. Wanecski; and a sister, Florence Banazuwski. Friends may call on Sunday (2-4, 6-8) at the Cooper Funeral Home, 215 West Center St., Medina. The Rosary will be prayed on Sunday at 2PM at the funeral home by members of Court Santa Maria #295, Catholic Daughters of the Americas and members of Holy Trinity Parish. The Rev. Daniel J. Fawls will celebrate her Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at 10AM at Holy Trinity Parish/St. Mary’s Church and interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
