Obituary of Alice K. Martin

Mrs. Alice K. Martin, of Medina, passed away on Nov. 1, 2017 at Buffalo General Hospital.
Mrs. Martin was born in Medina, March 10, 1931, the daughter of the late William C. and Margaret A. (Waterfield) Knights, Sr.  A graduate of Medina High School, class of 1949 and Buffalo State College, class of 1953, she began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Middleport Elementary School in 1953.  She married Roland J. Martin on April 2, 1956.  She was employed as an elementary teacher in the Medina Central School District beginning in 1959 and taught first grade at Oak Orchard Elementary School for many years, retiring in 1990.
Mrs. Martin was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Medina.  She served the church as an Elder and was the first female Clerk of the Session.  She was a member of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Alpha Theta Chapter and the Medina Cotillion Club.  Mrs. Martin enjoyed reading and listening to audio books in later years.  She also liked to knit, cross stitch and was an accomplished baker.
Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Roland J. Martin; two children, William C. (Susan) Martin and Margaret (Fiancée Bruce Sentiff) Martin; 3 grandchildren, Alissa M. (Brian) Dunham, Sarah K. Martin and Benjamin C. (Rhiannon) Martin; 2 great grandchildren, Margaret Alice and Bradley Parker Dunham; several nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brothers, NYS Assemblyman William C. Knights, Jr. on Feb. 5, 1973 and Edmund W. Knights on April 18, 1999.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her service on Saturday at 1PM at the First Presbyterian Church, 522 Main St., Medina.  The Rev. Dr. William H. Wilkinson will officiate and interment will be in Millville Cemetery.  There will be no prior calling hours.
